Rules

In Red Dog, the dealer deals you two cards from at least one deck, which are placed face-up on the table. The goal is to draw the next card that has a value between the first two cards. If you do, you get paid. How much depends on the value of the first two cards. The value of the cards is identical to that of many other card games. The 2 is the lowest card and the ace the highest. If you line up all the cards from low to high it looks like this: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K, A.

Betting

Placing a bet in Red Dog is done before the dealer deals out the two cards. Betting in an online casino is done as follows. First you select the chip with the desired value. Then click on Place Bet. By clicking on Place Bet twice in a row the double value of the chip is wagered. You can add a chip with a different value by selecting it first and then clicking on Place Bet.

But if you have an ace and a two, all the other cards fit between them. So in that case the chance of winning from the casino is very high.

So in Red Dog, for a big chance of winning, it is important that there is a big spread. With a small spread, the chance of winning is much smaller. This probability distribution is reflected in the payout, because it is linked to the spread. If the spread is 1, i.e. if only one card fits between the dealer’s cards, you will be paid out five times your stake. With a card spread of 2, the payout is four times the bet. A card spread of 3 results in a payout of twice the bet. All higher card spreads pay out once.

Losing Starting Cards

While there is certainly a chance that you will win at Red Dog, there are three situations where you will play even or lose. The first is when the dealer puts down two cards that are consecutive. In that case, no other card fits between them and there is no need to even ask for an additional card. This is called a draw or a tie. The full bet is then returned to the player by the casino.

Another situation in which you get your bet back is if the dealer puts down two identical cards. No other card fits between them either. In this case another card is dealt by the dealer. If this card is different from the first two, the player gets his stake back. If the third card is the same as the first two, the player is lucky and receives 11 times the bet. You lose your bet in Red Dog if the dealer draws two cards with enough room between them for another card, but if you draw a card that is outside the space.

House Edge

Red Dog is a pure gambling game with a house edge of 3.15% when dealt from one deck of cards. If more decks are used, the house edge goes down. With eight decks of cards, the house edge is down to 2.75%. A lower house edge is advantageous for players. Because then the chance of winning is greater. Now, a difference of 0.4% does not have that much influence on the chance of winning, but every little bit helps.
